All franchises confirmed their player retentions on deadline day ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League auction.
All ten franchises at the Indian Premier League confirmed their retention list ahead of the auction for the 2024 season, which takes place on December 19 in Dubai. One of the biggest developments from the retention day was the Gujarat Titans’ decision to retain captain Hardik Pandya; the move came amid substantial speculation regarding the all-rounder’s potential return to his former franchise, Mumbai Indians. The retention by the Gujarat Titans came as a surprise to many, adding spice for an intriguing auction which is set to see some big names going under the hammer.
While Chennai Super Kings retained Mahendra Singh Dhoni – thus confirming that the captain would be available for the 2024 edition – the Lucknow Super Giants also quashed speculations to retain KL Rahul. Mumbai Indians, however, released their star England speedster Jofra Archer while Royal Challengers Bangalore released a total of 11 players including 2020’s Purple Cap winner Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, and Wanindu Hasaranga.
