Oscars 2023: RRR makes history as ‘Naatu Naatu’ wins Best Original Song

India has bagged its second Oscars of the night. Following the Documentary Short Film win, the much-awaited Best Original Song award was bagged by the RRR song ‘Naatu Naatu’ at the 95th Academy Awards. Helmed by SS Rajamouli, and starring Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, the award was received by music composer MM Keeravaani, with lyricist Chandrabose.

Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava have sung the song as they performed at the Oscars night in Los Angeles with 30 dancers.

The official Twitter handle of RRR movie tweeted, “We’re blessed that #RRRMovie is the first feature film to bring INDIA’s first ever #Oscar in the Best Song Category with #NaatuNaatu! No words can describe this surreal moment. Dedicating this to all our amazing fans across the world. THANK YOU!! JAI HIND!’

Keeravaani gave his acceptance speech to the tune of Carpenters’ music. “I grew up listening to the Carpenters and now here I am with the Oscars,” he said as he crooned his speech on ’70s pop smash ”Top of the World”. He added, “There was only one wish on my mind. … RRR has to win, pride of every Indian, and must put me on the top of the world.”

‘Naatu Naatu’ was competing against Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Diane Warren. It becomes the first-ever song from an Indian film to win the prestigious honour.

RRR is a fictional tale of two Indian revolutionaries, Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju. The film explores the friendship between Ram and Bheem and their journey away from home during the 1920s.
